Datameer is an American company based in San Francisco, California. The company has two settlements in Germany, in Halle and Berlin.

The company is founded by a small team of eight employees in 2009. Before, this team implemented custom Hadoop big data analytics solutions.
The German Stefan Groschup was part of that eight employees. Before he was one of the very few early contributors to Nutch, which was the open source project that spun out Hadoop. Datameer was named by Fast Company as one of the most innovative companies in the world in 2013.
In 2015, Datameer has 175 global employees. About 50 employees are based in Germany.
Datameer was deployed in more than 30 percent of the Fortune 20 companies in the world after two years in the market.
At GigaOM's Structure 2010 LaunchPad and KMWorld, Datameer was voted to the second most promising cloud computing company in 2010.

Datameer specialized on Apache Hadoop and large volumes of data for business users of Apache Hadoop. Apache Hadoop is an open-source software that processes large amounts of data sets and spits out analytics as well as reporting.
The product is called Datameer Analytics Solution (DAS). It includes a data source integration and analytics engine.
A big advantage for companies that already have a large amounts of data in Hadoop, Datameer gives the possibility to interact directly with Big Data. The Datameer Analytics Solution (DAS) takes the date which is stored in Hadoop. The User can rapidly load, transform, analyse and visualize date rapidly.
The Design uses a familiar spreadsheet interface. Data can be pulled into worksheets. By using spreadsheets functions, the program will analyse the data by customizable transformations, aggregations and joins. Datameer Analytics Solution contains over a hundred spreadsheet functions, Natural Language Processing tools (NLP) for unstructured data, basic charting tools and dashboards. After creating this analytic model, the results are computed via Hadoop´s distributed processing technology.
DAS is available for major Hadoop distributions.
With DAS, the users of spreadsheets will be able to do Big Data analysis by their own without the need of the IT employees. Otherwise it would be difficult to analyse data of Hadoop without having a technical background in it.
All in all the spreadsheet interface offers the user a self-service big data discovery functionality under Hadoop execution engines.
