Bridge Table

Bridge tables are very similar like PIT tables and have the same goals. The goals are to accelerate queries on the system and the system itself. The difference to the PIT table is that the bridge table are designed for connecting multiple hubs. That means it is another form of a link.1) There should be no descriptive information from a satellite in a bridge table, similar to PIT tables. On the other hand, a bridge table can contain multiple keys from the connected hubs and links to enable connections to these hub and link entities.2) If a bridge table contains business keys from a hub, the quantity of rows rises rapidly which can result in a performance drop. That means that only business keys which are used very often should be integrated in a bridge table.3)
