GAP Analysis

Gap analysis is a tool that helps to get detailed information between a present state of art and a future, desired situation. A gap analysis is always characterized by comparing the current (what is?) and the future situation (what should be?) to help to be able to identify the “gaps” (requirements that are not met) and be able to develop measures to fill these requirements in future. In business, gap analysis often is used for revenue, profit forecasting or strategic personnel planning.

There are two types of the Gap Analysis:

  • the strategic gap
  • the operative gap
